Summary: FAB
Comment: I bought this lovely little camera on a complete whim, I know, it sounds really daft, but I just wanted one to tide me over. This camera is fab! The stills could be better, but it is a camcorder and does absolutely great filming. If you want a cheap camera for brilliant vids, BUY THIS! But, if you do want one just for photography, not video, then probably looking around and making sure of exactly what you want before buying this one would be a good idea!
Overall, a brill little camera!

Summary: Get The Right Memory Card - Not The Transcend
Comment: As you'll have seen from other reviews there's a problem with using the 4Gb Transcend card recommended by Amazon. It just doesn't work even though the card itself is not faulty. The card recommended by Andrew in another review does work. It's the Sandisk 4Gb card. It arrives as a 2 piece unit, the astonishingly tiny memory bit and the SD card sized adaptor ito which it slots. Insert it and away you go. The camera itself is fine and great value for money. Not the professionals' choice obviously, but for around 30 quid you couldn't ask for more.

Summary: Nice unit, but with a slight storage anomaly...
Comment: I received the camcorder very quickly and established that the built-in memory gives about 30 seconds of footage; no problem there, as I'd also ordered the 4Gb SD card which was recommended. several days later, the SD card arrived (from a different seller) and was quickly fitted, only for the camcorder to flash the front LEDs and power itself off as soon as I tried filming with the card. Tried re-formatting the card in the camcorder (this corrupted it, requiring re-formatting it in another camera), but with no improvement. Tried using the Vivitar phone numbers printed in the User Guide, only to discover that they are not in use. Sent two emails to the seller, but received no reply; telephoned the seller's Customer Service number and it was suggested that I try a 2Gb SD card. Having now bought an additional 2Gb card, I have fitted that and the unit now appears to behave well. So...I'd advise disregarding the line in the Tech Spec with suggests that it takes "up to 4Gb SD card", as it probably means "up to, but not including, 4Gb SD card". Other than that - and particularly in view of the price - I have no gripes yet, but it was a frustrating introduction.

Summary: Faulty?
Comment: I purchased this camera together with the 4mb SD card. I was not expecting amazing quality and was just looking for something to carry around with me on the odd night out. I was aware of its limitations but I was hoping for mediocre footage, easily downloadable and playable, combined with portability.
Unfortunately mine was practically unusable.
When I tried using it with the memory card the machine would just shut down as soon as I pressed the record button. This was both in video and camera mode.
It would record on an old 128 mb memory card I had but then when I went to review the clip it would take ages to load, it would start playing and then promptly freeze half way through.
I tried downloading the footage to my laptop to see if it would play but again I encountered problems with playback. Windows media player would not recognise the format. The only way I could view it was by using the software provided with the camera.
I gave up in the end and just sent the camcorder back for a refund. Maybe I was unlucky and it was just a faulty machine but I was not prepared to take a second chance with a replacement.
